Description

Abhidhamma Lecture, January 13, 2019 "Form-sphere Consciousness (Part 1)" The most significant mental factor in the Mundane Consciousness (Lokiya) is this Cetanā (=volition or motivation), while in the Supra-mundane it is Paññā, wisdom or insight. Mundane Consciousness tend to accumulate Kamma. But Supra-mundane Consciousness tend to eradicate Kamma. Cetanā in the supra-mundane consciousness cannot accumulate Kamma. Cetanā in every moral and immoral type of mundane consciousness is regarded as Kamma. Although Cetanā is found in Vipāka (resultant) types of consciousness too, it is of no moral significance as it lacks accumulative power. Form-Sphere Moral Consciousness - 5 (1) First Jhāna moral consciousness together with initial application, sustained application, joy, happiness, and one-pointedness. (2) Second Jhāna moral consciousness together with sustained application, joy, happiness, and one-pointedness. (3) Third Jhāna moral consciousness together with joy, happiness, and one-pointedness. (4) Fourth Jhāna moral consciousness together with happiness and one-pointedness. (5) Fifth Jhāna moral consciousness together with equanimity and one-pointedness. These are the five types of Form-Sphere Moral consciousness.
