Abhidhamma Lecture (English) 23-12-2018 "Sense-sphere Consciousness" အရွင္ ပေညာဘာသ Venerable Ashin Pannobhasa TBSO Mahasi, https://www.tbsousa.org/v11_10/default.html ***** Like the water current of a river, the inborn consciousness arises and passes away every moment throughout one’s entire life except during the intervals of fully conscious thoughts. Literally, this inborn consciousness is called by three names: “relinking consciousness” (paṭisandhi) at the first moment of a life or conception, and “death consciousness” (cuti) at the last, and “life-continuum” (bhavaṅga) in between when there is no conscious thought. There is no equivalent term for it in common English but the closest concept would likely be “sub-consciousness”. The unbroken flow of inborn consciousness or sub-consciousness takes place when we are in our mother’s womb, in deep sleep, or otherwise unconscious.
